12U Softball

At the 12U level, coaches increase the instructional focus on softball strategies and tactics while continuing to reinforce the fundamental skills. Players continue to use a 60’ base path but, are introdiced to a 40’ pitcher’s mound distance at this level. Advanced rules are called with some alterations based on league participation.

12U Softball is the most competitive level of baseball in Lancaster Youth Baseball and Softball.  Most players in 12U will be 12 and 11-years-old, although qualified 10 year-olds may also be drafted onto 12U teams if they meet the Player Assessments.

Developmental Guidelines for 12U Softball

Players entering 12U Softball should be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Players entering 12U have demonstrated command of the basic skills of softball (fielding, catching, throwing, batting and base running). They also understand appropriate actions in game situations, such as when and where to make put-outs, how to steal bases, how to tag-up on fly balls, and how to execute cut-offs.

Players who don’t meet the developmental guidelines for 12U, should remain in 10U for an additional season.
